John lived to the age--so unusual at that period--of 85 and died 1353, having for 40 years received summons to Parliament. He was designated as Lord of Powys. They were married by gift of Edward II. (Burke says he was younger son of Sir John de Cherleton, Knight, of Appley Castle, County Salop, not Robert de Cherleton.) July 26, 1313, John le Cherleton was summoned to Parliament as Baron Cherleton de Powys, and from that period to July 25, 1353. His arms were: Or a lion rampant gu, arms of the Princes of Powys, presumed to have been adopted consequent on his marriage.
