John de was born about 1325 in Upholland, Lancashire, England. John de's father was Robert III 1st Baron de Holand , KG, Sir and his mother was Maud la Zouche. His paternal grandparents were Robert II de Holand , Sir Knight and Elizabeth de Salmesbury; his maternal grandparents were Alan 1st Baron la Zouche , of Ashby, Sir and Eleanor de Segrave. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Robert IV 2nd de, Thomas de, Margaret de, Maud de, Isabel de and Elizabeth de. He was the youngest of the seven children. He died after 1393 in Thorpe Waterville, Thrapston, Northamptonshire, England.General Notes
John de Holand (Sir), of Thorpe Waterville, which, however, he appears to have occupied as a kind of grace and favour tenant rather than outright owner since the records show that Manor as having passed to the descendants of his elder brother Thomas, Earl of Kent; had [John], with a younger son (Thomas, ancestor of the Hollands of Weare, Devon).
