Margaret was born about 1290 in Shilvington, Castle Ward, Northumberland, England. Margaret's father was Hugh Gobion , Sheriff of Northumberland, Sir and her mother was Joan Morrell. Her paternal grandparents were Hugh Gobion and Matilda; her maternal grandfather was Nigel Morrell. She was an only child.General Notes
(d) The fact that he held a part, and his descendants the bulk, of the manor of Shilvington has suggested to genealogists that his wife was Margaret, daughter and heir of Sir Hugh Gubiun, sheriff of Northumberland 1292-96, on whom, as younger son, that manor appears to have been settled. Sir Hugh Gubiun left 6 daughters and coheirs (none named Margaret), of whom the eldest, Alice m. Simon Ward, and the 4th, Agnes m. Robert's younger brother John de Ogle. The Ogles acquired Shilvington from the coparceners, but not by marriage. Lord Ogle quartered the arms of Gubiun... The Gubiun arms are not among those shown on the tomb of the 3rd Lord Ogle.
