Hugh was born about 1256 in Horton, Hardingstone, Northamptonshire, England. Hugh's father was Hugh Gobion and his mother was Matilda. His paternal grandparents were Richard Gobion and Agnes de Merlay. He had a sister named Joan. He was the younger of the two children. He died after 1296.General Notes
Sir Hugh Gubiun, sheriff of Northumberland 1292-96, on whom, as younger son, that manor [of Shilvington] appears to have been settled. Sir Hugh Gubiun left 6 daughters and coheirs (none named Margaret), of whom the eldest, Alice m. Simon Ward, and the 4th, Agnes m. Robert's younger brother John de Ogle.
