Adelaide was born in 1035 in Longueville, Normandy.  Adelaide's father was 1st Earl Walter "The Elder" Of Buckingham GIFFARD and her mother was Ermentrude Agnes FLAITEL.  Her paternal grandfather was Lord Walter DE BOLBEC; her maternal grandparents were Gerard DE FLAITEL and Herleva DE EVEREUX. She had two brothers and a sister, named Walter Of Buckingham, Elias I and Rohese.  She was the second oldest of the four children.
