Joan was born about 1142 in Launceston, Cornwall, England.  Joan's father was Reginald Reynold De Earl Of Cornwall and her mother was Mabel Fitzrichard.  Her paternal grandparents were King Henry I "Beauclerc" England King and Sibyl (Adela) (Lucy) Corbet; her maternal grandparents were William Fitzrichard Lord Of Cardinham and Miss De Mortaigne. She had a brother and three sisters, named Nicholas De, Denise De, Maud Fitzroy of and Isabel De. She had two half-brothers named Henry and Alan De.
