Richard was born in 1078 in Lahnyndhry Castle, Wales. Richard's father was Ponce Baron of Pons. His paternal grandparents were Pons FitzWilliam and Basilia. He had a brother named Pons. He was the younger of the two children. He died at the age of 51 in 1129.
