Maud was born about 1185 in Saffron Walden, Essex, England.  Maud's father was Geoffrey FitzPiers , 3rd Earl of Essex and her mother was Beatrix de Say.  Her paternal grandparents were Piers de Lutegareshale and Maud de Mandeville; her maternal grandparents were William II de Say , of Sawbridgeworth and Aufrica of Huntingdon. She had two brothers named Geoffrey de and William de.  She was the second oldest of the three children. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named John and Hawise.  She died on August 27th, 1236 in Warwick, Warwickshire, England.

‌Maud and Henry de were married in a religious ceremony about 1197 in Essex, England.  They had a son named Humphrey V de.
