Her paternal grandparents were Robert de Ferrers , 2nd Earl of Derby and Margaret Peverel; her maternal grandparents were William II de Braose , 1st Baron of Abergavenny and Bertha de Gloucester , Heiress of Brecon. She had a brother and two sisters, named William II de, Agatha de and Pernell (Petronella) de. She was the second oldest of the four children.-
