Her paternal grandparents were William II de Ferrers , 4th Earl of Derby and Agnes of Chester , Lady of Chartley; her maternal grandparents were William Marshal , 4th Earl of Pembroke and Isabel de Clare , Countess of Pembroke. She had four sisters named Isabel de, Agnes de, Eleanor de and Joan de. She was the third oldest of the five children.
