Uchdrud ap was born about 1050 in Tegeingl, Flintshire, Wales.  Uchdrud ap's father was Edwin ap Gronwy and his mother was Iwerydd verch Cynfyn.  His maternal grandparents were Cynfyn ap Gwerystan and Angharad verch Maredudd. He had a brother named Owain ap.  He was the younger of the two children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Iestyn ap and Myfanwy verch.
