Tudor ap was born about 1178 in Tregarnedd, Llangefni, Anglesey, Wales.  Tudor ap's father was Ednyfed "Fychan" ap Cynwrig and his mother was Tangwystl verch Llywarch.  His paternal grandparents were Cynwrig ap Iorwerth and Angharad verch Hwfa. He had a brother named Cynwrig ap.  He was the younger of the two children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Gronwy ap and Gwenllian verch.
