Tudor ap was born about 1178 in Tregarnedd, Llangefni, Anglesey, Wales.  Tudor ap's father was Ednyfed "Fychan" ap Cynwrig and his mother was Tangwystl verch Llywarch.  His maternal grandparents were Llywarch Bran , Lord of Cummwd and Rhael verch Gronw. He had a brother named Cynwrig ap.  He was the younger of the two children. He had a half-sister named Tangwystl verch.
