General Notes

In 1290 Hugh de Eland gave his daughter Margaret and John Lacy her husband all his lands and the services of his tenants in Southowram except for the manor of Eland and certain specified lands, to hold in frank-marriage. In 1292, John Lacy claimed against Robert de Whitworth and others land which they had unjustly disseised John de Lacy, his father, whose heir he was.
By a fine made at Westminster 5 Jun 1295, between John de Lacy de Crumwelbothum and Gregory, Abbot of Stanlaw, John de Lacy acknowledged that the advowson of the church of Castelton in Rochdale belonged to the Abbot, who gave John 20 pounds sterling for the fine.
In 1296, as a yeoman of Hugh de Eland he had protection for one year while staying in Scotland on the King's service. On 23 May 1304, a juy inquired if Henry fitz Richard de Hipernum and Joh. de Lacy unjustly disseised Tho. de Langefelde of his free tenement of 2 1/2 acres of meadow in Todmerdene and Hunredfeld. John de Lacy said that he held the land conjointly with Margeria his wife, and brought the charter.
