Maud was born about 1106.  Maud's father was Earl of Leicester Robert De Beaumont Earl of Leicester and her mother was Isabel De Crepi De Vermandois. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Robert "Bossu", Waleran IV, Isabel Elizabeth, Adeline and Alice.  She was the youngest of the six children. She had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Rainald, William III, Maud (Amicia) and Gundred (Adelaide).
