Ugo was born in 0880. Ugo's father was Count Theobald OF ARLES and his mother was Princess/Princess Bertha OF LORRIANE. He had two brothers and a sister, named Boso Of Tuscany, Hugh Of Italy and Teuberga Of Lorraine. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Adalbert III and Ermengarde. About 1020 Richard II, Duke of Normandy, places Ralph and hisson Roger, along with others, in charge of the castle ofTillieres to hold it against Odo of Chartres, the Duke'sbrother-in-law, who had revolted. Odo attacked the castle butwas routed and barely escaped with his life.
