Josselin II de was born about 1078 in Courtenay, Gatinais, Isle-de-France, France. Josselin II de's father was Joscelin I (Jocelin) Sire de Courtenay and his mother was Elizabeth Isabel de Montlhery. His paternal grandfather was Athon Sire de Courtenay; his maternal grandparents were Guy I Seigneur de Montlhery and Hodierne de Gometz , Dame de la Ferte. He had a brother and a sister, named Miles (Milo) SIre de and Hermengard (Vaindelmonde) de. He was the youngest of the three children. He had a half-brother named Bernard III de. Jossselin de Courtenay; held various fiefs in the Crusader kingdoms in and around the Holy Land, becoming Prince of Galilee (1112-18), Count of Edessa (1118-31), both principalities in what is now northern Syria, and Lord of Turbessel in the County of Edessa (enfeoffed by his cousin Baldwin II of Edessa), Tiberias and Nazareth; married 1st a sister of Leo, Prince of Armenia; marred 2nd a sister of Roger, Prince of Antioch, and died 1131 after being injured by falling masonry while sapping the tower of a castle he was besieging.
