SIR REYNOLD DIE COBHAM, of Sterborough Castle, apparently, according to modern doctrine, LORD COBHAM, but who was never so styled, 2nd but 1st surviving son and heir by 2nd wife. He was born 1381, and was knighted in May 1426. He appears to have taken no part in the French wars, but to him, on 12 May 1436, was committed the custody of the Duke of Orleans (afterwards Louis XII), who had been taken prisoner at Agincourt more than 20 years before. In 1431 he and his 2nd wife founded the College of Lingfield. He married, 1stly, Eleanor, daughter of Sir Thomas COLEPEPER, of Bay Hall, Pembury, Kent. She died 1422, and was buried at Lingfield. He married, 2ndly, in or shortly before 1427, Anne, widow of Sir William CLIFFORD, daughter and coheir of Thomas (BARDOLF), LORD BARDOLF, by Anice or Amice, daughter of Ralph (CROMWELL), LORD CROMWELL. He died 1446, and was buried at Lingfield. M.I. His widow, who was born 24 June 1389, died s.p., 6 November 1453. M.I. at Lingfield.
