Errick was born in 1201 in St Clair, Argyllshire, Scotland. Errick's father was Duncan Earl de Carrick and her mother was Avelina Fitzwalter Stewart. Her paternal grandfather was Gilbert Lord of Galloway; her maternal grandparents were Alan FitzWalter , 2nd High Steward of Scotland and Eve of Crawford. She had two brothers and a sister, named Neil Earl of, Nichol de and Martha of. She was the oldest of the four children.-
