William I "The Great" Count of Macon & was born in 1024 in Macon, Saone-et-Loire, Bourgogne, France.  William I "The Great" Count of Macon &'s father was Renaud I Count Palatine of Burgundy and his mother was Alice Adelaide of Normandy.  His paternal grandparents were Otto Guillaume Count of Burgundy and Ermentrude de Roucy; his maternal grandparents were Richard II "The Good" Duke of Normandy and Judith of Brittany.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 63 on November 11th, 1087.
