Ermentrude of was born in 1060 in Bourgogne, France.  Ermentrude of's father was William I "The Great" Count of Macon & Burgundy and her mother was Stephanie (Etiennette) de Longwy. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Stephen (Etienne) "Tete Hardi" Comte de, Raymond of, Gisela of, Bertha of, Matilda of and Clemence Clementia of.  She was the second oldest of the seven children.
