James De was born about 1279 in Berkeley, Gloucestershire, England.  James De's father was Thomas BERKELEY Baron and his mother was Joan De FERRERS BARONESS BERKELEY. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Maurice IV the magnificent, John De, Thomas III De, Alice, Margaret De and Isabel De.  He was the third youngest of the seven children. He had a half-sister named Margaret.  He died on June 28th, 1327.
