Saxton was born on June 4th, 1758 in Durham, CT. Saxton's father was Samuel Squire and his mother was Ann Bishop. His paternal grandparents were Samuel Squire and Abigail Unknown. He had a brother and seven sisters, named Samuel, Anne, Anne , Anne, Katherine, Phebe, Olive and Clarissa. He was the second oldest of the nine children.
