Gerard's father was Thomas Skrimshire and his mother was Anne Sneyd. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Skrimshire and Alice Starkey ; his maternal grandparents were Ralph Sneyd and Mary (Maria) Chetwynd. He had four brothers and three sisters, named John, Ralph, Robert, Thomas, Anne, Elizabeth and Mary.-
