Alice's father was Thomas Bright and her mother was Margaret Payton Jervis. Her paternal grandparents were Walter Bright and Mrs. Margaret (Bright). She had four brothers and eight sisters, named Robert, Thomas, Henry, Jasper, Kathrine, Margaret, Mary, Joan, Kathrine, Joan, Susan and Anne.
