Sarah Ann was born about 1820 in Ontario Co., Ontario, Canada.1 Sarah Ann's father was Joseph Morrell and her mother was Anna-Maria Stoner. Her maternal grandparents were Peter Stoner and Margreitje Frolich. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Jacob, William, Joseph, Daniel, James, Charity and Margaret Jane. She was the third oldest of the eight children. She died due to cancer on May 4th, 1887 in Union, Union Township, Rock Co., Wisconsin, U.S.A.. Sarah was the sister to Margaret Morrell (George's first wife). Sarah's first husband was William Merrill. The Merrill / Morrell name similarity causes a lot of confusion, especially to the census takers. Sarah and William's two oldest children Emily Adelaid Merrill and Thomas Jefferson Merrill kept their name, however the youngest may have went by the name Royer. Jacob Merrill was not on the 1870 census so may have died between 1860 and 1870. Thomas Jefferson Merrill was also not on the 1870 census. He may also have died between 1860 and 1870, however by 1870 he would have been 22 years old and my have left home.
A newspaper article states that "Sarah died at the home of her daughter, Adelaide Roberts, in Union, Wisconsin".
