George was born in 1378 in Mar,Aberdeenshire,Scotland.1 George's father was Earl William Douglas and his mother was Countess Margaret Stewart Of Angus. His maternal grandparents were Earl Thomas Stewart Of Angus and Margaret Sinclair. He had a sister named Margaret. He was the older of the two children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named James and Isabel. He died after September 14th, 1402 in of plague as prisoner of English after Battle of Homildon Hill,Lancashire.1 General Notes

George was the illegitimate son of William, Earl of Douglas by his first cousin, the Countess of Angus and Mar. He inherited his mother's title and possessions in 1389 making him the 1st Earl of Angus. George married Princess Mary Stewart, daughter of King Robert III, in 1397.
