João Garcia Pereira's father was João Garcia Pereira and his mother was Isabel Pereira Sarmento (Ou Roxo). His paternal grandparents were Garcia Álvares Pereira and Inês De Magalhães Da Silva; his maternal grandparents were Gonçalo Pereira Roxo and Maria Sarmento. He had five brothers and a sister, named Gaspar Garcia Pereira, Álvaro Pereira, Domingos Garcia, Gonçalo Pereira, Sebastião Pereira and Bárbara.
