Etienne II was born in 1045. Etienne II's father was Thibaut III De Blois and his mother was Gersende Du Maine. His paternal grandparents were Eudes II De Blois and Irmengarde D'auvergne; his maternal grandfather was Herbert Ier Eveillechien Du Maine. He had a half-brother named Hugues V.
