Joseph Ahart was born on July 26th, 1835 in Garrard County, Kentucky. Joseph Ahart's father was Joseph Newton and his mother was Lydia Back. His paternal grandparents were James Newton and Nancy Gill. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Elijah, Joseph Harper, Samuel G., Cassandra and Nancy Anne.
