At least 3 double first cousins ofIrvin Ba iley served in the War of 1812, namely Thomas Lee Bailey,oldes son of his father's brother Wi lliam Bailey and his mother'ssister Winifred Lee, as well as Thomas Lee and William C Lee, so ns ofhis mother's brother, Needham Lee, Sr and his father's sister SusanBailey. H e makes this declaration forthe purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which he may be entit ledunder Act of Sept 28, 1850.Thomas LeeThe State of Alabama, Shelby CountyBefore Hiram Sumne r, JP comes Thomas L Bailey and makes oath that theabove named Thomas Lee served the 6 mo las t set forth in hisdeclaration as this affiant was in the same company with him duringthe whol e term; and he further states that the statement first made bythe said Thomas Lee is true, a s affiant lived in the said neighborhoodof Rogersville, Tennessee and saw said Lee start wit h the soldiers andknows he was absent for three months. This was in December 1812.Thomas L. B aileyState of Alabama, Shelby CountyOn this 6th day of September 1858 before N Lee, JP came S arah Lee agedsixty three years a resident of said county and state, and declaresshe is the wi dow of Thomas Lee deceased, who was a private in thecompany of Mounted Men commanded by one C aptain James Cummins in theWar with the Creek Indians in the year 1814 and that said Compan y wentfrom the county of Hawkins, State of Tennessee and from the town ofRogersville sometim e during the month of October in the year 1814 asshe now believes from her recollection of th e same and that saidcompany volunteered as she thinks for the term of six months and thatth e members of this company with her said husband, Thomas Lee amongthem returned to their home s in the County of Hawkins in the State ofTennessee some time in the month of April in the ye ar 1815 and thatsaid company was as she now believes taken from the State of Tennesseeto th e Creek or Seminole country in Alabama or Florida and that it wasthence taken to Baton Roug e in Louisiana and was there dismissed orsent home in the early part of the said year 1815 an d that her saidhusband Thomas Lee was honorably discharged from said service aboutthe time la st above mentioned and that her said husband has heretoforedrawn a Bounty Land Warrant for on e Hundred and Twenty acres to thebest of her recollection and that he drew this warrant throu gh theAgency of Jno S Storrs, Esq or of Warers & Storrs of Montevallo in theState of Alabam a and that her said husband drew the warrant asaforesaid under Act of Sep 28 1850 and that sh e does not know thenumber or date of this said Warrant for the reason that her saidhusband, T homas Lee sold the said Warrant during his life time andthat she believes the said warrant wa s located in the Land Office ofthe US kept at Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Her said husband also serv ed threemonths in the aforesaid war in a company of mounted men under CaptVance or Capt Willi ams or Col Williams, which company went from thesame county of Hawkins in the state of Tennes see. She further statesthat she was married to the said Thomas Lee in Hawkins CountyTennesse e in the month of August in the year 1813 by one John Hamlin aJustice of the Peace and that h er said husband died in Shelby County,Alabama in the 5th day of February 1853 and that her na me before hersaid marriage was Sarah Bailey, and that she is now a widow.
