Elis IV was born about 1145 in Of Brimpsfield, Gloucs, England.1 Elis IV's father was Elias Giffard and his mother was Bertha (de Clifford) FitzRichard. His paternal grandparents were Elias Giffard and Ala Giffard; his maternal grandparents were Richard FitzPons and Maud FitzWalter. He had four brothers and a sister, named Walter, Gilbert, Richard, William and Berta. He died before 1221.1 General Notes
