Benjamin Melvin was born on November 19th, 1869 in Butler Mo.1 Benjamin Melvin's father was John Edwards and his mother was Sarah Powell. His maternal grandparents were Gholston POWELL and Mary Coulter. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Henry Jackson, Campbell, Charles, Jacob, Mary D. and Berylla A.. He was the fourth oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 73 on August 13th, 1943 in Los Angles CA.1 General Notes

Obit. from Geri Armenta Ben Edwards dies in LA Hospital Ben Edwards, assistant street superin tendent for the city of Santa Monica, and an employee at the public works department since 19 10, died unexpetedly at 9 oclock this morning at a Los Angeles Hospital. He was about 73 yea rs old. Commissioner W. W. Milliken of the public works department said Edwards was stridke n suddendly yesterday afternoon with an intestinal ailment, and rushed to the hospital. Edwar ds, whose home was at 1323 15 Street, is survived by his widow, two sons and a daughter. He w as born in Butler, MO, and had been working under the direction of Charles D. Tompkins, the s treet superintendent, for a great many years. Funeral arranagements have not yet been complet ed.[576008.ftw]
