Alfred was born in 1002 in Wessex.1 Alfred's father was Ethelred II (Aethelred) and his mother was Emma de Normandy. His paternal grandparents were Edgar and Elfrida Elfthryt Of Devonshire; his maternal grandparents were Richard I "Sans Peur" Longsword and Gonnor de CREPON. He had a brother and a sister, named Edward III the Confessor and Godgifu. He had seven half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Athelstan of England, Ecgbert of England, Edmund II, Edred of England, Edwy of England, Edgar of England, unknown of England, Aelgifu (Elgiva) of England, Edgyth of England, Wulfhilda of England, Edgive of England and daughter. He died at the age of 35 in 1037 in Ely Monastery, England.1 General Notes
