John Johnson Winfrey

John Johnson was born in 1849 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.¹   John Johnson's father was Holmes Warren Winfrey and his mother was Lucinda Elkins.  His maternal grandfather was Shaner Elkins. He had four brothers and three sisters, named James Hardin, William L., Hal Gillespie, Henry, Beersheba, Sarah Kate and Sidney.  He was the fourth oldest of the eight children.
