Catherine was born in 1860 in ,Clackamas, Oregon.1 Catherine's father was Solomon Wheeler and her mother was Melissa Elizabeth Foster. Her paternal grandparents were John Wheeler and Mary Blessing. She had seven brothers and four sisters, named John, Isaac, Jacob, Thomas, James B., Solomon, Joseph, Mary B., Jane, Elizabeth and Martha. She was the fourth youngest of the twelve children.-
