Mamie's father was Moses Tackett and her mother was Mary Susan Shavers. Her paternal grandparents were Hiram C. Tackett and Lucinda G. Shavers. She had five brothers and four sisters, named James, Ollie May, Paris F., William H., Wayne, Hannah Rosetta, Maud F., Edna and Beulah.
