Elizabeth was born in 1836 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.1 Elizabeth's father was Gillam Spires Or Spears and her mother was Elizabeth Everhart. Her maternal grandparents were Christian Everhart and Elizabeth. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, Robert, Rebecca, Sarah, Nancy and Ida. She was the second oldest of the seven children.
