Edward was born about 1768 in North Carolina.1 Edward's father was David Spears and his mother was Nancy Jones. His paternal grandparents were James Spears and Elizabeth Coker; his maternal grandparents were James Jones and Caroline Speir. He had a brother named Arthur. He was the younger of the two children.-
