Catherine was born in 1877 in ,Bourbon, Kentucky.1 Catherine's father was Edward F. Spears and her mother was Sarah Ann Woodford. Her paternal grandparents were Abram Spears and Rebecca Ford; her maternal grandparents were John T. Woodford and Elizabeth Buckner. She had two brothers and two sisters, named John Woodford, Keith Young, Mary and Elizabeth. She was the second youngest of the five children.-
