Her maternal grandparents were Jacob Blessing and Elizabeth Messersmith. She had six brothers and three sisters, named John Blessing, William Bown, Arthur Henderson, Samuel A., Henry Clay, Thomas Foy, Adaline Batie, Ann Elizabeth and Sarah Sophia. She was the second youngest of the ten children.-
