Marmaduke Nance was born in 1803 in Patrick Co., VA.1 Marmaduke Nance's father was Ignatius M. Sims and his mother was Jane Or Janet Nance. His paternal grandparents were Francis Semmes and Lucretia Chapman; his maternal grandparents were John Nance and Mary. He had two brothers and eight sisters, named Leo Dabney, Ignatius Andrew Jackson, Mary, Jancie, Anna, Eleanor, Margaret, Exoney, Margaret and Elizabeth. He was the sixth oldest of the eleven children. He had two half-brothers named John Dabney and William Robertson.-
