Mary Jane's father was Benjamin Shipley and her mother was Nancy Jane Copus. Her paternal grandparents were Joshua Shipley and Mary Strickler. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Nathan, Benjamin, John C., Joshua, Christian Elizabeth, Sarah, Selina and Martha.-
