Louisiana was born in 1838 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.1 Louisiana's father was William Shanks and her mother was Catherine. Her paternal grandparents were Christian Shanks and Mary Or Polly Pearson. She had a brother and six sisters, named Martin Van Buren, Eliza, Cyrena Or Serena G., Amanda, Hannah H., Mary and Roxanna. She was the oldest of the eight children.-
