James Leftwich was born on December 7th, 1872 in Near Mooresberg, Hawkins, Tennessee.1 James Leftwich's father was Thomas Amis Rogers and his mother was Mary Matilda Leftwich. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Amis Rogers and Matilda Nall. He had a brother and three sisters, named Thomas Amis, Minnie Blevins, Matilda and Mary Brown. He was the second oldest of the five children.-
