Gruffydh's father was Rhys I Of South Wales and his mother was Gwladis Of Powys. His paternal grandparents were Tudor Mawr Of South Wales and Gwenllian Of Anglesea; his maternal grandparents were Llywarch Ap Tranaern and Dyddgu Of Builth. He had a sister named Nesta. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Iowerth Dryondion, Iowerth Dryondion and Angharad. He died in 1137.¹
