Eliza's father was Thomas Figures Norfleet and her mother was Margaret Andrews. Her paternal grandparents were Reuben Norfleet and Mary Figures. She had four brothers and five sisters, named Stephen Andrews, James, Reuben, Thomas Figures, Rebecca, Adelaide, Frances, Louise and Margaret Andrews.
