Henry Porter's father was William Massengill and his mother was Deborah Chisholm. His paternal grandparents were Henry Massengill and Penelope Cobb. He had three brothers and eight sisters, named John, Michael J., William Porter, Ailsey, Deborah, Eliza C., Emaline A., Martha, Mary A., Penelope and Susan Porter. He had three half-brothers and a half-sister, named Alexander Porter, Jeremiah Nicholson, Pharoah Cobb and Rebecca Cathren.-
