Reuben was born in 1764 in Virginia.1 Reuben's father was Bartholomew Lawson and his mother was Susannah Simkins. His paternal grandparents were William Lawson and Isabel Kenney; his maternal grandparents were John Simkins and Elizabeth French. He had ten brothers named David, Randolph, William, John, Elisha, Peter, Philip, Bartholomew, Jacob and Moorman.-
