Mary was born in 1868 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.1 Mary's father was Ambrose Lawson and her mother was Amanda Murrell. Her paternal grandparents were Banks Lawson and Thersey Parvin; her maternal grandparents were Pleasant Murrell and Susan Trent. She had five brothers and three sisters, named William S., Gaines, Joel, Wheeler, Peter, Susan, Cordelia and Sarah. She was the second oldest of the nine children.-
